Please Rob Me.Com Lets Burglars Know When You're Not at Home

Just. Plain. Wrong.     Sent to you by tony via Google Reader:     Please Rob Me.Com Lets Burglars Know When You're Not at Home via Neatorama by John Farrier on 2/17/10 Now that sounds like a terribly criminal thing to do, but the creators of this website hope to warn people about the dangers of exposing too much personal information on the Internet: Please Rob Me consists exclusively of an aggregation of public Twitter messages that have been pushed through fast-growing location-based networking site Foursquare, one of a handful of services that encourages people to share their whereabouts with their friends. You can filter by geographic location, too. "On one end we're leaving lights on when we're going on a holiday, and on the other we're telling everybody on the internet we're not home," the Please Rob Me site says to explain its rationale. "The goal of this website is to raise some awareness on this issue and have people think about

Shoveling. Snow. Saints!

The last eight days have truly been the stuff of legends!  First, the snow on Friday!  As many of you know, I was born and raised in Alexandria, VA.  Aside from the four years that I served in the Army, I've spent roughly 32 years of my life in the familiar surroundings of traffic, traffic and more traffic.  That being said, I have NEVER EVER seen anything like this.  One could make the argument that there was the blizzard of '96...but I was still in Georgia at the time so technically, this is a first for me.  I gotta say, I love snow.  Not the shoveling, but the sound of snow falling; so quiet, so serene.  Truly a thing a beauty...and the fact that I missed several days of work because of it doesn't hurt.  I also didn't miss the fact that we lost approximately 20 hours of power in the first 48 hours of said snow storm.  Honestly, I didn't mind it so much.  We lost power at 10PM which conveniently became bed time!  You'd be amazed at how tired you suddenly feel
Now, who's ready to BBQ?

Six More Weeks of Winter

So yesterday, that damn rodent stuck his head out of the ground and informed us lowly bipeds that we're in for 6 more weeks of winter. And then, f*ck me running, several inches of snow fell from the ground that VERY night! If that don't beat all! When I heard about our good friend, Phil finding his shadow and dooming us to six more weeks of teeth chattering, digit numbing, scrotum shrinking hell, I was at once wishing that Phil would find his shadow at the bottom stew pot! Six more weeks of this ? C'mon! But, that minor outrage was replaced by a sobering reality; I'm a 35 year old man. I am really young BUT, old enough to embrace Latin. Tempus Fugit. I have found myself using the above statement more and more lately . Case in point, the link I just laid down in the last sentence. I could've sworn that that entry was made three months ago. That was almost a year ago. When I was a kid, my mother used to ask me what day it was. "Silly Mommy", I&#

'We Are the World' Rerecorded For Haiti

Parts of me are curious about this...     Sent to you by tony via Google Reader:     'We Are the World' Rerecorded For Haiti via The Huffington Post | Full News Feed by The Huffington Post News Editors on 2/2/10 LOS ANGELES — The charity anthem "We Are the World" has been rerecorded by 80 artists who came together in the same Hollywood studio where the original was cut 25 years ago. Pink, Natalie Cole, Kanye West, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion, Brian Wilson and others stood shoulder-to-shoulder on risers at Henson Recording studios Monday night to raise money for Haiti earthquake relief. "This one, the enthusiasm, I've never seen anything like it," said Lionel Richie, who wrote the original with Michael Jackson and oversaw the new version with music mogul Quincy Jones, 76. Jones, who produced the 1985 anthem, announced last week that he planned to redo the song to benefit recovery efforts after the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquak

'Fridge Purge

So, last week, I had to perform the monthly 'fridge purge; why I've yet to learn that I should drink copious amounts of booze before hand is beyond me. This is not a job for folks with acute senses...unfortunately, all of mine are in perfect working order. Every 'fridge purge is different, every purge is a journey for said senses. To be sure, it is unnatural to for foodstuffs to take on every color of the rainbow, much less natural the spoils of this particular labor to be luminescent and full of vibrant color. Any nature enthusiast would tell that brightly colored things in nature are probably the most dangerous; I posit that many of the enthusiast have never engaged in an office 'fridge purge! Seriously folks, the office 'fridge is like it's own microcosm of sights, sounds and smells. Okay, it's pretty much all smell. For the most part, the office 'fridge is an unassuming "pull my finger" of angry old food that just can
